I would like to report on a recent clownfish rearing project I have conducted. Two years ago I picked up two juvenile "Black" A. ocellaris clownfish from Dick Perrin at Tropicorium and have reared them together in a 10 gal. tank using OmegaOne Marine flake and OmegaOne Marine pellets. This Spring they started spawning, so I decided to try rearing a batch. I used live rotifers from Reed Mariculture and algae paste to feed the rotifer cultures. I hatched out the nest in a 10 gallon tank wrapped in black card board on April 12, 2009 and started with rotifers followed by live baby brine on day 5 followed by OmegaOne frozen baby brine for 2 weeks. Gradually they were weaned to OmegaOne powdered flake diet and have stayed on that till now. They were transferred from the larval tank to a 10 gallon tank in my adult system at 3 weeks. At 3 and a half month from hatch, many are now over 1 inch in length and doing fine. Below is a picture of the adult pair with eggs in their pot, followed by the juveniles just after transfer and finally a recent photo of the juveniles. Although I have not raised any fish in over 25 years it is still fairly easy especially with the new foods.
